Learn how to create a very cool tar patch effect using the chrom effect.

Step 1: New document, 400x400 pixels, hit "d" to reset your colors. Apply the clouds filter.


Step 2: Filter > Artistic > Plastic Wrap.


Step 3: Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation.


Step 4: Now place a Lens flare in the middle, I put a "movie prime" style lens flare in the middle, which is only available on CS/CS2.


Step 5: Duplicate the layer, and go up to Filter > Distort > Spherize.


Step 6: Put the blending mode to "Overlay," and merge the layers together.


Step 7: Duplicate the layer again, Filter > Distort > Twirl (300px). Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen, do this twice. Filter > Blur > Radial Blur (100, Zoom, Best).


Step 8: Filter > Sketch > Chrome (0, 10). Hue/Saturation (212, 60, 0).


Step 9: Change the blending mode to "Linear Light," and merge the layers.
