With the Rectangle tool draw a vertical box. Right-click on the text in the layer and Rasterize.

Duplicate the layer and then select Scale from the Transform menu.

Select the right side middle point, hold the Shift key down and move to the left..

Now select Perspective.

Pull down vertically from the top left side to create the side of the package.

Go back to the front panel layer and choose Perspective. Draw down on the right side to give the box a more 3D perspective.

Duplicate the front panel. Choose the lowest front panel layer and select Distort. Pull the form into place for a shadow pattern.

Create the gradient shown below.

Use the Gradient tool set at 100% opacity and draw out the natural shadow direction. Use Gaussian Blur set at 1.2 on the shadow.

With the gradient tool, create a gradient on the side and the front. Make sure the lower part is darker.

Then on the front panel apply an Inner Glow with the settings below.

Add text to the side and use Transform and Rotate. Make the color something that you would naturally see in the shadow.

To tie the side panel and front together, add artwork or a graphic used on the side to the front. I used the R in Rock Studies as the design for the front. I first added a drop shadow to the letter.

I decided that the letter needed more depth so I ran a gradient along. I also created a design for behind the letter and used Motion Blur to make it more dynamic. And finally I thought that the overall look for the front should also contain the name of the product.
